That feels like the natural order of things for most people. Later, we added rabbits. While it was a learning curve, now that we\u2019ve figured out the best care and have our colonies settled, I can confidently make the case for rabbits over chickens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cleaner<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Rabbits are tidier and produce manure that\u2019s garden-ready without composting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Easier to Handle<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 They\u2019re quiet, gentle, and simple to manage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Simpler to Process<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Butchering rabbits is less labor-intensive than chickens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Excellent Mothers<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Rabbits are attentive and reliable breeders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extraordinary compost<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;Rabbit waste is ready for use immediately and truly enriches soil.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Highly Prolific<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 With just two does and a buck, you can raise over&nbsp;<strong>200 lbs of organic meat<\/strong>&nbsp;in a year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Delicious<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 In my opinion, rabbit meat tastes better than chicken!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll admit, fresh eggs from chickens are nice but meat chickens don\u2019t typically provide eggs. Rabbits, on the other hand, offer consistent meat production year-round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We raise ours&nbsp;<strong>colony style<\/strong>, though many prefer cages. Both methods have advantages, and it\u2019s all about finding what works for you.
